Dr Paul van Zyl
Qualifications
This practice is headed by Dr Paul van Zyl. He obtained his dental degree (BChD) from Stellenbosch University’s Dental Faculty in 1984. After a few years in general practice, obtained his Master’s degree in Prosthodontics cum laude (MChD) in 1992. Since then he has held a private practice as a prosthodontist in the northern suburbs of Cape Town.
Staying at the forefront of prosthodontics
Dr Van Zyl has been involved with dental education since he graduated as a prosthodontist. He was a consultant for postgraduate students at Stellenbosch University’s Dental Faculty, which later became the University of the Western Cape’s Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr Van Zyl lectures on aspects of prosthodontics at academic institutions such as University of Pretoria. He regularly lectures on South African CE courses presented by industry bodies such as the International Team for Implantology (ITI), South African Dental Association (SADA), Southern African Association of Osseointegration (SAAO) and Academy of Prosthodontics South Africa (APSA). He lectured at and was the prosthodontic coordinator of the ITI Education Week hosted at the University of Pretoria’s ITI Centre of Excellence. He was the ITI Education Delegate for the ITI Southern African section from 2007 to 2016 and Section Chairman from 2016 to 2020. He also served on the ITI Education Committee from 2013 to 2018, during which time he was involved in the design of the curriculum of the ITI Online Academy. He also authored one of the study modules of the ITI Online Academy.
He is a member of leading industry bodies in prosthodontics in South Africa and internationally. In addition, he regularly attends conferences on the latest developments in the field of prosthodontics.
